Royal Decree
Dissolving the House of People's Representatives,
2543 BE
Bhumibol Adulyadej R
Given on the 9th day of November 2543 BE
Being the 55th year of the present reign
Phra Bat Somdet Phra Paramin Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej gives a great royal command by which He orders with His pleasure that it be announced as follows:
Whereas the Prime Minister has humbly made the following submission to Him: When the President of the House of Representatives made a submission to Him on the 9th day of November 2540 BE, asking Him to appoint a Prime Minister, and [when] a Council of Ministers was later formed to perform the public services of the State, it was known generally that the Council of Ministers formed on that occasion had an important mission to expedite the carrying out of various activities under the time frames designated by the Constitution and to accelerate the resolution of critical problems of the Country. Now, the proceedings for enactment of organic laws and other laws required by the Constitution to be finished within the designated times have been finished, and the resolution of critical problems respecting the economy, society, and politics has been accomplished to a degree, whilst, in regard to the Legislative, Senators have been elected and the House of People's Representatives has been convened twice a year in eight full sessions throughout the four-year period of tenure of the House of People's Representatives, and the National Assembly has approved the law on expenditure budget for the budget year 2544 BE and an amended version of the organic law on election of Members of the House of People's Representatives and Senators, allowing [both laws] to be enacted for use in organising a general election in a smooth, expeditious, fair, and just manner. It is thus appropriate to surrender the power of making political decisions back to the people, by dissolving the House of People's Representatives for further organising a general election of Members of the House of Representatives in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand;
Therefore, by virtue of the powers under the stipulations of section 116 and section 221 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, He orders with His gracious pleasure that the following Royal Decree be enacted:
Section1.This Royal Decree is called the "Royal Decree Dissolving the House of People's Representatives, 2543 BE".
Section2.This Royal Decree shall come into force from the day of its publication in the Royal Gazette onwards.
Section3.The House of People's Representatives shall be dissolved in order to enable an election of new Members of the House of People's Representatives.
Section4.A general election of Members of the House of People's Representatives shall take place on the 6th day of January 2544.
Section5.The Prime Minister and the President of the Election Commission shall be in charge of the execution of this Royal Decree.
Chuan Leekpai
