Laws of Sabbath

242: To Take Care Regarding the Honor of Sabbath.

1 Even someone who depends on others, if he has a bit of his own, he needs to hasten himself to honor the Shabbat. And they only said "make your Shabbat as a weekday and do not need to rely on people" regarding one in a time of dire need. Therefore, one needs to practice restraint during the other days in order to honor the Shabbat. One of the enactments of Ezra is that people should wash clothes on the fifth day of the week because of the honor of Shabbat. Gloss: We customarily knead a quantity of dough that is sufficient to become obligated in challah, in the home, with which to make breads on which to break on Shabbat and holidays [this has support from Mordecai, beginning of Tractate Rosh Hashanah]. And it is of the honor of Shabbat and holidays, and one must not deviate. Some write that in a few places they are accustomed to eat mulitha, which is called pashtida, on the night of Shabbat, as a remembrance to the manna which was covered above [Maharil; and I don't see that one should be concerned to follow this].
