269ː The Law Pertaining to the Kiddush in the Synagogue.

1 It is the custom to recite Kiddush in the synagogue. And the one who recites does not taste the wine of the Kiddush but gives it to a minor to taste because there is no Kiddush except at the place of the meal (and see below, Chapter 273). And from the outset, it was only enacted for the sake of guests who eat and drink in the synagogue, to fulfill for them their obligation. And now, even though guests do not eat in the synagogue, the enactment was not cancelled. This is the reason of the places where the custom was to recite Kiddush in the synagogue. But it's better to have the custom not to recite Kiddush in the synagogue. And so is the custom of the Land of Israel. Glossː And the custom is to stand during the time that Kiddush is recited in the synagogue.
