One May Remove and Replace Hinges for a Holiday-Related Need |
צירי דלתות מתר להסיר ולהחזיר לצרך יום טוב |

Paragraph 1 - We remove the store shutters (meaning the boards that are used to close the store) and return them on a holiday in order to remove spices that are needed and not diminish the joy of the holiday. This only applies when the hinge is in the middle [of the board]. But when the hinge is at the side, it is forbidden. This is a decree lest one force it in. When they have no hinges it is permitted to put them back even on one's house. |
סעיף א - מסלקין תריסי (פרוש, קרשים שנועלים בהם החניות) חניות ומחזירין אותם ביום טוב, כדי שיוציא תבלין שהוא צריך להן ולא ימנע משמחת יום טוב. במה דברים אמורים, כשיש להם ציר באמצע, אבל יש להם ציר מן הצד אסור, גזרה שמע יתקע, ושאין להם ציר מן הצד כל עקר, אפלו בבית מתר להחזיר. |

Paragraph 2 - Detachable objects, like a lamp made of several pieces or a chair or table made of several pieces, can be assembled on a holiday, if this is not done with force. |
סעיף ב - כלים שהם מפצלים, כגון מנורה של חליות וכסא ושלחן שהם חתיכות חתיכות, מעמידין אותן ביום טוב, והוא שלא יתקע. |

Paragraph 3 - The laws of releasing, cutting, or breaking the fastenings of containers and things attached to the ground are the same on a holiday as they are on Shabbat (and see chapter 314 paragraph 7). |
סעיף ג - להתיר ולהפקיע ולחתך חותמות שבכלים ושבקרקע ולשבר פותחות, כדינם בשבת כך דינם ביום טוב (ועין סימן שי"ד סעיף ז'). |

Paragraph 4 - The laws of cutting off a piece of straw, stubble, or spice are the same on a holiday as they are on Shabbat (explained in chapter 322 paragraph 4). |
סעיף ד - לקטם קש או קיסם או תבן או עצי בשמים, דינן ביום טוב כדינן בשבת (כדאיתא סימן שכ"ב סעיף ד'). |

Paragraph 5 - It is forbidden to make the creases that women make in their sleeves and leggings because this is considered making an object. |
סעיף ה - קמטים שעושים הנשים בבתי זרועותיהן ובבתי שוקיהן, אסור לעשותן ביום טוב, משום תקון מנא. |
