To the Nymphs of the Fountain.



"Reach with your whiter hands to meThe crystal of the spring," etc.Herrick.

O the clear water, that now to me a maidenExtends with an even clearer hand!Immediately, this done, around and above the bowlI behold lilies in their spring bloom.
At last, yield to me, O Nymphs, as I often pray,Cups so sweet to touch my bright lips;And as soon as the water is joined to your lips,It will be reborn as pure wine.
