Translation talk:Íslendingabók

I'm just posting here because I've just contributed this translation (by me) of chapters 1-7 of Ari inn fróði's Íslendingabók. I translated from Guðni Jónsson's normalised Old Icelandic edition of the text as found at http://www.heimskringla.no/original/islendingesagaene/islendingabok.php, with some reference to Finnur Jónsson's Danish translation of 1930, as found at http://www.heimskringla.no/dansk/finnurjonsson/islendingabok/index.php.

I have generally aimed for fluency of English rather than literality, but doubtless there are places where better ways to represent the Icelandic could be found. My translation almost certainly also has some mistakes, and as I write there are a couple of gaps where I wasn't sure of the text. I hope to fix these, and to expand the translation to include the whole of Íslendingabók, but obviously if anyone fancies doing it first then they're very welcome :-) Alarichall 20:19, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I've added my translation of chapters 8-12. It's based on Guðni Jónsson's edition, as above, but I've made use of Siân Grønlie's translation where I got stuck (Íslendingabók, Kristni Saga: The Book of the Icelanders, The Story of the Conversion, translated with introduction and notes by Siân Grønlie, Viking Society for Northern Research, University College London. ISBN 978 0 903521 71 0). And where really stuck I've included her translation followed by the Old Icelandic text; this amounts to about 50 words, which I've referenced (for ease of deletion if it's in violation of something).
