Chapter Ⅰ.—An Act making an alteration in the Flag of the United States.
Alteration in Flag of United States.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That from and after the first day of May, Anno Domini, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-five, the flag of the United States, be fifteen stripes alternate red and white. That the Union be fifteen stars, white in a blue field.[1]

- ↑ By the act of April 4, 1818, chap. 32, the following provision is made relating to the flag of the United States:Sec. 1. That from and after the 4th of July next, (July 4, 1818,) the flag of the United States be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternately red and white. That the union be twenty stars white in a blue field.Sec. 2. That on the admission of any new state into the Union, one star be added to the union of the flag; and that such addition shall take effect on the fourth day of July then next ensuing.
