Chap. XCV.An Act making appropriations for the purchase of books, and for other purposes.

5000 dollars appropriated for the purchase of books for the library of Congress.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the sum of five thousand dollars be, and the same hereby is appropriated, to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the purchase of books for the library of Congress.

Librarian authorized to employ an assistant.Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the librarian of Congress be authorized to employ an assistant, who shall receive a yearly compensation of eight hundred dollars, commencing March fourth, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven; to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
