May 2, 1840.

No. 1. Joint Resolution authorizing the Secretary of War to continue certain clerks employed in the office of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs.

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,Post, p. 583.
Authority contained in 16th clause 1st sec. act 9th May 1836, ch. 60, extended for two years.
That the authority given to the Secretary of War by the sixteenth clause of the first section of the act entitled “An act providing for the salaries of certain officers therein named, and for other purposes,” dated the ninth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-six, to employ two clerks in the business of reservations and grants under Indian treaties, be extended after the expiration of the period for which that authority was granted for the term of two years.
