March 3, 1817.

Chap. LXXV.An Act for the relief of James Villere.

Claim on account of fuel to be settled.Be it enacted, &c., That the additional accountant of the war department be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to audit and settle the claim of James Villere, on account of fuel used by the American troops, and that he allow him, in the settlement thereof, the value of the same.

Claim for damage by filling of canal.Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said accountant be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to audit and settle the claim of the said James Villere, on account of damages sustained by filling up a canal running through his plantation, by order of General Jackson, and that he allow him, in the settlement thereof, a reasonable compensation for opening the said canal, and one year’s rent for such part of his plantation as was planted with sugar-cane, and overflowed and destroyed in consequence of filling of the said canal.

Appropriation.Sec. [3]. And be it further enacted, That the amount thereof, when ascertained as aforesaid, shall be paid to the said James Villere, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
