General
[edit]Current instructions in Template:New texts
[edit]- Please limit the number of texts to eight, so that it fits nicely on the page.
- Insert a new text on the top, and pop an old one off the bottom.
- Try not to have two texts by the same author on this template at the same time.
- Add new items using {{new texts/item}}. No subst.
Additional instructions
[edit](to be incorporated in with above)
- Texts added should conform to site policies, including WS:COPY and WS:WWI.
- Texts should have clear source information including date and author.
- The template should contain a variety of texts on different topics at any given time.
- The template is not full-protected, and new users are encouraged to contribute texts provided they satisfy above criteria.
- There is no time limit on amount of time texts must remain in the template before new texts are added. This will encourage active participation and facilitate new texts being added to the project.
- If one text on a particular theme (text A) was just bumped off the template as another new text on a different theme (text B) is added to the top, one should allow a period with a fresh set of texts before adding that theme (text C) again. In other words, allow the new-text (text B) to move its way through the set down to the bottom and off the template, before adding another new text (text C) on the same theme.
Themes
[edit]Description
[edit]- Note - This could work very well as its own template separate from Template:New texts, at Template:Themed texts
- Themes have historically been discussed at Template talk:New texts, and then remain on the template one week prior to the event/holiday, historical anniversary date, etc.
- Past examples:
- The template typically goes back to being a regular "New texts" template within 24-48 hours after the date of the theme has passed.
Rotating out old Theme
[edit]- Once the Theme has passed, the special formatting for the template's Theme is removed, but the Themed documents remain on the template.
- Then, users again are free to add any new text to the top of the template, and remove the bottom text (the first of which will obviously be a themed-text).
- In this manner, the themed-texts will be rotated out naturally after the Theme date has passed.
- As there is no time limit on the amount of time a text must remain in the Template, the amount of time it could take to rotate out all the Theme texts will vary.
