"We're telling the greatest story on the Internet."

About me

I come to Wikimedia from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada's national public broadcaster where I worked in issues management and media relations. At CBC I spent a lot of time talking to journalists, designing and executing PR and social media strategies, and drafting research briefs on emerging media and technology trends.

Pre-2006 I worked in communications for various departments of the Canadian government including Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Health Canada, the Department of National Defence, and the Department of Justice. And before that I headed up communications at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Back in Canada I was really actively involved with the Friends for Life Bike Rally (hey, a red link!). I have a B.A. with a specialization in Creative Writing from Concordia University in Montréal. I also studied at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada.

My work

I lead a small team of communications managers who help shape the global story for the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia movement. We work with a brilliant network of global communications representatives around the world, and in dozens of languages. We spend a lot of time thinking about design, media relations, internal communications, merchandise, and spreading the word about our community, our technology, and our mission.

Disclaimer: Although I work for the Wikimedia Foundation, contributions under this account do not necessarily represent the actions or views of the Foundation unless expressly stated otherwise. For example, edits to articles or uploads of other media are done in my individual, personal capacity unless otherwise stated. Although I am a member of the Legal and Community Advocacy team, I am not a lawyer. The legal team can only represent the Wikimedia Foundation on legal matters, so we are unable to give legal advice to others, including community members, editors, or contributors. Communications with members of the legal team are not consultations and do not create any confidential relationship.
