This page details how one might use an already completed Project Gutenberg transcription to their advantage when proofreading for Wikisource
The basic premise
[edit]I think that we should view Project Gutenberg as friends and not competitors. Ideally, a work already transcribed on Gutenberg should be easier to transcribe on Wikisource.
The steps
[edit]- Paste a modified version of the Gutenberg text into your sandbox
- Use SodiumBot to match and split
- fully transclude the work, adding {{Incomplete}}
- Proofread each page by using the OCR button, checking for paragraph breaks, italics, quotation marks, dashes, spelling errors, etc. But you don't need to check as thoroughly as you would when proofreading from scratch, because...
- you can press the "compare changes" button to check for errors. It is extremely unlikely that you and Gutenberg both made the same mistake, so you can press proofread there are no errors or when you have fixed them all.
