hi,

I just read your message on wikisource.org. You seem to be pretty upset. You also seem to have made a few assumptions that are plainly wrong.

First, my robot did NOT delete your images. Please read the logs before complaining. [[1]] Apparently, someone else deleted your images. Please complain to that person, not to me.

Please also note that cleaning the main site is an arduous task, and that I perfectly understand that some mistakes can happen when deleting unused files. However, data is never lost, it is always possible to undelete a file that has been deleted by mistake. So the descriptive texts of your images are not lost, neither are your images.- all you need is to ask. And you better ask the person who deleted them.

Second, my robot did NOT move the pages to subdomains. Developers did that. The role of the robot was to list the pages that were written in different language. And for that matter, it was quite useful, because you do not want to categorize 30k pages manually. However, moving the pages was not done by the robot, it was done by developers, based on the lists provided by the robot. You could complain against me if the nasa pages you contributed had been moved to a non-English subdomain, but it apparently was not the case.

Third, images had to be moved separately. This is because images are not entries in the database, they are real files. I suggest they be moved to Commons instead of moving them to the subdomains.

Fourth, my robot was not meant to update interwiki links in the pages that were moved. It could have done that, but nobody asked for it.

I hope you now understand that I am not responsible for your pain. I invested quite some time and efforts in the split of wikisource into subdomains. There might have been some glitches, but I really do not like to be accused of something I did not do, especially after all the efforts I made.

Okay, consider my complaint withdrawn and redirected at the ones who did the actual article-moving, then - User:ThomasBot was what deleted the pages so I figured it was also the agency responsible for doing the moving. Sorry about that, I'll add a comment to that effect to your bot's page for the record. Fortunately there's no need to go digging through deleted stuff since I do have it all stored locally (I've been at it for the past two hours now, should be finished by the three hour mark) and I'm copying and pasting captions from the article text to serve as descriptions for the time being. all right. once you are done, it would be very nice if you could also mark for deletion the images that remain on wikisource.org, so that we know we can delete them. ThomasV 08:39, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Will do. Bryan 08:44, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
