Hello, Ebenezer.Elijah, welcome to Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here. If you need help, see our help pages (especially Adding texts and Wikisource's style guide). You can discuss or ask questions from the community in general at the Scriptorium. The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page.

If there is no other work by that name, you do not need to give the author in the page's title. —Benn Newman (AMDG) 14:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some Brooke Poems

[edit]

Hi, Ebenezer.Elijah,

I noticed you've been adding some poems by Rupert Brooke. I was wondering about some of the poems, though, specifically:

  1. I. Peace
  2. II. Safety
  3. III. The Dead
  4. IV. The Dead
  5. V. The Soldier

I'm wondering if there is a need to have the Roman numeral in the title. Is the numeral actually a part of the title of that poem? Or are they there just to "link" poems together in a collection? If it's the latter, then the pages should be moved to the titles without the numerals, in accordance with our standard naming conventions here at Wikisource.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:39, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hm, concerning the numerals, the only place I've found them used is on Gutenberg and (what looks to me) like sites which borrowed from Gutenberg's collection of Brooke's poetry. Also, a Google Book search indicates that this is also the norm for naming these poems. Because of this, I suggest that we leave the titles as they are, since it seems to be the "official" title.  :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 22:21, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, dear Elijah!

[edit]

Thank you so much for your kind words, dear Elijah! :) You flatter me, asking for my advice! ;) I must tell you, tho, that I'm not really that experienced... I limited myself to follow the style used at other authors' pages, and I try to be as systematic as possible; my humble belief is, it's better to keep them as organized as possible for clarity purposes. You're absolutely right; some entries look uterly messy, in particular those of best known authors like Yeats. I believe this is because they were the first works to be added at Wikisource, before the current style conventions were adopted. This also means we should not only add new works, but whenever possible to tidy existing poems and author pages as well. I don't have any particular advices to give you regarding style; my best suggestion is, just follow the same guidelines you may see at pages like, i.e., the one I made for Ella Wheeler Wilcox. It's the best way to learn, and you'll see you'll get used to them in no time.
Again, thank you for your kind message, dear Elijah - welcome to Wikisource, I look forward to collaborate with you! :) (and please do work on Brooks' entry, I could definitely use some help with poetry - not many of us who focus on that! ;) Love, Phaedriel - 20:02, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

[edit]

Thanks for the heads up, dear Elijah! :) And congrats on the awesome work you're doing with Brooke's works - it's so great to have someone else aiming to coordinate and expand the Poetry contents here! :) I know we'll collaborate a lot here. I'll resume the work on Ella Wheeler Wilcox as soon as I finish up with the Bronte sisters - I'll see you then! ;) Take good care! Love, Phaedriel - 22:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

True, sweetie, apparently the discussion is stalled, so that basically means we're off to continue using our best judgement at each case... although I'm sure that, eventually, a uniform criteria needs to be agreed upon, as we keep on growing more and more. Fortunately, that's not an obstacle to keep on working ;) You're most kind again in your words regarding my modest work with Wheeler's poetry; me, I'm completely in awe of your work with Brooke, and your ideas are excellent. Count me in for that initiative! :) Nothing would please me more than seeing a unified and constant effort to improve our contents on Poetry (actually, that's the reason why I'm editing here ;)
While I'm visiting you, I'd also like to call your attention to this small discussion. It is related to your own points at Scriptorium, in that we need to have stable criteria to classify Poetry, mostly because being a small community has had its downside in having anyone do as they please for a long time, until recent times. Please keep me updated on the progress of your ideas! And do visit me at English Wikipedia anytime, since I spend most of my time there - Wikisource is my haven when I'm stressed ;) Love, Phaedriel - 17:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
