Hymms

[edit]

Would it be okay to put hymms here? Have a nice week and god bless. --Sir James paul 22:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bot script library

[edit]

Hello GrafZahl. I've created a bot script library to make it easier to reuse scripts, and added your previous scripts. —{admin} Pathoschild 20:14:20, 08 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you.--GrafZahl 20:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of redirect pages

[edit]

Hi - I noticed that you (your bot) deleted the redirect page from The How and Why Library: Plants: Section II to The How and Why Library/Life/Plants-Section II. I'm curious about the rationale behind deleting redirect pages. It means that the links from Commons pages I've made such as Image:The_How_and_Why_Library_038.jpg are now broken as well as any external websites that may have linked to the original content location. Thanks -SCEhardT 23:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The page in question was a soft redirect (see {{dated soft redirect}}). Such pages are deleted as part of an automated maintenance process that is executed once per month, in accordance with our deletion policy (CSD M2). This process is part of a larger procedure which ordinarily runs as follows:
  1. A redirect page is deemed superfluous and replaced with {{dated soft redirect}}.
  2. That soft redirect page contains a link to the former redirect target and prompts users to update their links. Such a redirect page is kept around for at least two months.
  3. A monthly scheduled automated soft redirect maintenance process deletes the old soft redirects.
So what happened was that you (or whoever) failed to update the link on time.
Now, it can't be expected that all links are updated timeously. Therefore, several safety measures have been provided. For one, the bot automatically updates links pointing to soft redirects and detects soft redirects pointing outside the project. However, the bot is not omniscient, so only links within the English Wikisource are corrected. To compensate for that deficiency, information about planned actions of the bot are provided a few days in advance (for example, here are the relevant links for the December 2006 soft redirects: List of redirects (talk)references (talk)changes (talk)exceptions (talk)). You are invited to place Wikisource:Bot_requests/Persistent_tasks on your watchlist to be notified of impending deletions, so you can take action before the actual deletion takes place.
Of course, in general external entities are responsible for the correctness of their links, but it is not our intention to unduly impede editors of sister projects. So, if the soft redirect maintenance should cause immense problems, I urge you to bring the matter up in our Scriptorium so we can find a satisfactory solution.

Thank you for your extensive explanation of this! It took me a while, but I have finally proposed a change which I invite you to comment on. -SCEhardT 22:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bot task (Complete Encyclopaedia of Music)

[edit]

Hello GrafZahl. I performed and archived the bot request entitled "Standardize headers (Complete Encyclopaedia of Music)", but Pathosbot is not capable of the link maintenance you mentioned. Are you interesting in doing that with Talbot? If so, I'll open a new request. —{admin} Pathoschild 05:19:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Pathoschild. Sure, go ahead. But I probably won't get around to doing it before late April.--GrafZahl 09:14, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's fine; I've opened the new request. —{admin} Pathoschild 00:13:32, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

The New Text template

[edit]

Copied from the Main Page talk page:

Update: This template was cascade-protected by the Main page protection. I've removed the cascade protection.--GrafZahl (talk) 13:00, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, but do you think that that protection needs to be put back from time to time? I can understand the need for locking things. In this case, so that not more titles than you want be displayed.--Drboisclair 13:08, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
The HTML comment on top of this template explains how new texts should be added (remove one link for every link you add, in essence). As long as users adhere to this simple guideline, we don't need stronger protection. Or do you mean the text throughput becomes too large at some point?--GrafZahl 13:20, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, it is just as you say. I am glad that there are guidelines and protections. I guess that when I add a new text, I want everyone to know. It is also helpful for you as admins to inspect the new additions. I appreciate your fine work in making this a fine part of the Wiki family!--Drboisclair 13:32, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

CotW

[edit]

Greetings, I noticed that you have edited the Author:Maxim Gorky page - and that's all the justification I needed to (spam your talk page, and...) inform you that he has been chosen as the current Wikisource:Collaboration of the Week. Please consider a few minutes today to help improve our collection of works by this fine author! Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week:'this week: Ernest Hemingway 05:31, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

OCR Proofing

[edit]

Hello GrafZahl,

I am going to try this tool on my next OCR-based project. Between the stuff I personally scan, and the stuff I cull from The Internet Archive, I do seem to use a lot of RAW OCR as the starting-point of my projects. I must admit that I once found the existing documentation for the Side-by-Side image viwer to be confusing, when I looked at it some time ago. But, now that I've figured out Labeled Section Transclusion, I'll give it a shot. Is there a similar tool for parallel texts? That is, a text with it's original language in one collumn (Greek, Hebrew, Latin, whatever) and the English in another? Or would I just have to manually do perform such an operation with <div> statements? —Wikijeff 16:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

no, you don't want to do this with div statements. please use the DoubleWiki extension (the ⇔ links). I know it does not work well, but it is the only wat to avoid replicating data. I will try to fix its many bugs in the future. ThomasV 17:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wikijeff, have a look at this example to see how ProofreadPage works. Basically, you edit on the Page: pages and include them in the actual text as templates. See page 3 and page 4 for an example of how to use labelled section transclusion on a footnote spread over two pages. If you need help with something specific, you can always leave a note on my talk page.
ThomasV has already mentioned DoubleWiki. I have yet to try that out in combination with ProofreadPage, but I could imagine it not working very well unless you have a very large screen because you'd probably need four columns; two for text and two for the images. OTOH, it should be feasible to edit only a single language at once.--GrafZahl 20:56, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The New Student's Reference Work

[edit]

You bot has destroyed all the source page structure in the NSRW project. What was the purpose of all that renaming and template removing? Please get everything back. — Monedula 08:19, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

the navigation is now handled by an index. I reverted your changes. ThomasV 08:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I see the Index, but I do not see the images. What's wrong? — Monedula 08:34, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
that is strange... you should see the image on the right of the text. could you reload the page and confirm? what navigator are you using ? ThomasV 08:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
The image is shown only if the MonoBook skin is selected. I use the Classic skin, and because of this I see no images. Something should be done with this. — Monedula 08:52, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You are right, I will try to fix that. Note that the image is shown in edit mode. ThomasV 09:03, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry. That must have been quite a shock with the images not working for you. I hope you'll be able to see the scanned pages soon with your skin. The general idea of ProofreadPage is to have a unified pages vs. chapters structure for scanned works. See Category:Index for some examples of ProofreadPage in action.--GrafZahl 17:34, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!
