{{header}}

[edit]

Gday. I updated the {{header}} on a couple of the pages that you did, but didn't get to all of them. We try not to have to resort to wikilink'ing authors to enWP, as we would prefer to create a local author page that links through. We even have a gadget that will try to grab the vital text from enWP to help create an Author: namespace page. Also, with the year parameter, we only require it at the top of the work. not in the subpage. — billinghurst sDrewth 07:39, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your fixes. I am new to Wikisource and can use all the help I can get. I mostly work on Commons. --Jarekt (talk) 20:44, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jarekt,

It was great to meet you last weekend. I had been thinking about getting in touch about the work you were interested in. I see that you've been working on it. One small problem, but easily worked around I think: in order to match and split we have to work from the OCR. I don't recall if it will skip matching pages that have been edited, I think so, but if the earlier text is well formatted, match and split would be useful. Of course, if you are very far along it might no longer be worthwhile. Let me know if you want any help. --Doug.(talk contribs) 03:55, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Doug, I am slowly getting familiar with this system. It is quite good exercise. I am done with chapter 1 and all the graphics pages. Do you think match and split would work for the chapters 2-5 only? I am still a little blurry about what it does and how. I also have some thinks I not sure what is the best way to resolve:
  • pages 28 and 29 are missing from djvu files but we do have the text. I added it to page 27. but I am not sure what is the best way.
  • pages 11->12 transition splits word "Yesterday" into "yes-" and "terday", and the display program adds a space in between. I fixed it with a bunch of noinclude and includeonly statements but there might be some more standard way of dealing with that.
  • What should be the ideal image size? They would look better if I make them larger but I am concerned about mobile devices

Hmm, well skipping the M&S issue for now - we'll come back to it later,
  • missing pages from the scan are a problem. It should be fixed sooner rather than later, if necessary by inserting two blank pages into the djvu as placeholders and re-uploading. Changing the number of pages will mess up the index we can use a bot to move the text if a lot of text is affected.
  • there are templates to fix that, they are a bit of overkill if you ask me but they are standard {{hws}} and {{hwe}}; they should be self-explanatory but if you need any help with them I'll be glad to stick them in there for you.
  • I don't know the answer to this. I'll ask around.

on finishing proofreading Ambulance 464. - Theornamentalist (talk) 13:43, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, It was interesting to see how all that process works. and thanks for all your help. I will also reread and validate few pages that I can. --Jarekt (talk) 13:48, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
How did you address the missing pages? Did you insert pages as I mentioned above?--Doug.(talk contribs) 22:47, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, I did not do anything about it. I looked into altering DjVu file but could not even open it in a standalone DjVu reader. I also do not see much of an issue with the current setup: book pages 28 and 29 are missing but the content is known and added to page 27. --Jarekt (talk) 12:11, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually there might be a better solution: I found a different scan with those 2 pages. --Jarekt (talk) 12:40, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I uploaded File:Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.pdf and created Page:Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.pdf/60 and Page:Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.pdf/61. my current Ambulance 464/Chapter 1 is done as <pages index="Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.djvu" from="28" to="59"/> <pages index="Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.pdf" from="60" to="61"/> <pages index="Ambulance 464 by Julien Bryan.djvu" from="60" to="67"/>. Those pages have some extra end of line in the middle of the sentences. Is there a better way to do it? If someone knows how we could add extra pages to DjVu and reupload but than our pages will not match DjVu file. We could also create index page for the PDF file, but I do not think we should be creating other text pages for PDF pages. --Jarekt (talk) 13:48, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
