HELP! where is Wikisource talk:Possible copyright violations?? I'm in the middle of replying to Birgitte! Physchim62 13:06, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Little request
[edit]May you take care of this guy, please ? Thank you, --BeatrixBelibaste 20:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Is there anything specific about it you see problematic? --Cool Cat 15:26, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- No {{header}}, the colours are out of place with the rest of Wikisource (you should probably just use prettytable. --Benn Newman (AMDG) 15:34, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- The colors are to identify individual speakers. {{header}} will be there soon. --Cool Cat 16:05, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- {{header}} has an author field. This is a transcript, who should I put as Author? POPOV36? --Cool Cat 16:08, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
You have added the PD edict of US Gov template to this page. I am slightly confused as it is not an edict of the US Gov. I don't really know a lot about copyright of international treaties and I am trying to learn. John Cross 11:36, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- Then I am confused too. You had put the template {{PD US Law}} (which read "This document is enforeceable [sic] in US law and therefore excluded from U.S. copyright). ---Benn Newman (AMDG) 17:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, sorry - I think I misunderstood the response from Physchim62:
"The legality is OK according to Project Gutenburg which say the treaty is not copyrighted in the US http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/686 John Cross 22:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC) As a law (the treaty is directly enforceable in national courts), this would be excluded from U.S. copyright and the copyright of most EU countries. Physchim62 13:29, 9 February 2007 (UTC)"
Perhaps there is a rule the US that meants that laws which apply in any country cannot be copyright in the US. I have been contributing quite a few Acts of the UK Parliament passed over 50 years ago but (as I wrote earlier) I do not know much about copyright of international treaties. I am reasonably confident the Treaty is not in copyright because of Project Guttenburg, but I am not sure why.

mistaken deletion.
[edit]On December 12 you accidentally deleted J. Clifford Baxter suicide note as a G2 reposed dated. However the first deletion was a PROD. The receation of proded material is seen as a dispute to it's deletion. The material should be recreated and undergo and regular deletion process. (if you want to contact me use wikipedia:User talk:jon513) Jon513 13:20, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Proposed deletion at Wikisource is not the same thing as at Wikipedia; it is our regular deletion process. The relevant discussion in the proposed deletion archive. --Benn Newman 14:39, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- thank you, sorry for the confusion. Jon513 14:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Ip block
[edit]Was just going to do a heads up - been across mostly wikis at the same time - cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:29, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Cross wiki vandal issues
[edit]Hi a passing vandal fighter mentioned that you might be interested in some cross wiki vandal IPs. If you take a look at this it would be worth checking you logs to see they are blocked in a way you think is appropriate. Equally maybe look at user:Vedantdotcom - new accounts on at least 10 wikis at roughly the same time with the same content. If you want more info do let me know (it is one of those things I feel strongly about - control of cross wiki vandalism - hope you don't mind). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- What's this you say? There are wikis other than Wikisource‽ Well, I never… —Benn Newman (AMDG) 13:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- That better be humour or I'll not be back <g> - just go block the IPs or some bad karma will affect the world and cause great disorder (damn that's politicians isn't it) --Herby talk thyme 13:31, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Locking of the Template:New texts
[edit]I noticed on the logs for this template that you were the last admin to do something with it. Why was it locked? If you go to the template, it still has the tab "edit" and not "view source" as the main page has. I see something about "cascading options", so, how can we enter new texts that we have put onto this website? This locking was done some time after the last new text was posted.--Drboisclair 23:01, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- {{New texts}} is semi-protected. As described in Wikipedia's protection policy, “semi-protection disables editing from anonymous users and registered accounts fewer than four days old”. As your account is just over a month old, you should be able to edit it. —Benn Newman (AMDG) 02:37, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
CotW
[edit]Greetings, I noticed that you have edited the Author:Maxim Gorky page - and that's all the justification I needed to (spam your talk page, and...) inform you that he has been chosen as the current Wikisource:Collaboration of the Week. Please consider a few minutes today to help improve our collection of works by this fine author! Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week:this week: Ernest Hemingway 05:31, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Update archival system
[edit]Hello newmanbe. The archival system your archives are based on was recently overhauled. Improvements include the ability to use any interval in the titles (anything from "/2007" to "/2007-09-13 12:00:31 3"), automatic date detection, and simplified structure. Your archives are the last to be updated; this will involve moving /Archives/2006/01 to /Archives/2006, and updating templates on that page and links on the index. Is that okay? —{admin} Pathoschild 16:16:28, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you find me a pretty picture from Wikimedia Commons, you can. —Benn Newman (AMDG) 19:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- I've updated your archives. Here are a few pretty pictures:

Name
[edit]Hi, I want to change my name here, please. —unsigned comment by ßßß (talk) 2008-01-03T05:58:22Z-500.
Hello, you can e-mail Zhaladshar, our local bureaucrat, to have him change your user name. —Benn Newman (AMDG) 17:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Zhaladshar don't gave me an answer about this cause.
There is a "3" floating around in the text you uploaded[1], and an anon that is proofreading the text has removed and then restored[2] it. My guess is that this "3" refers to a footnote that is missing from the text; do you recall where you obtained this text from? John Vandenberg (chat) 03:11, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Collaboration project
[edit]This weeks collaboration project is G. W. Bush. Please take the time this week to identify and/or transcribe one important work by, or involving, this very prominent person who is relevant to us all. John Vandenberg (chat) 02:35, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Why was the structure underneath The Elements of Euclid deleted? John Vandenberg (chat) 01:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- It was an incomplete, less accurate version of Index:The_Elements_of_Euclid_for_the_Use_of_Schools_and_Colleges_-_1872.djvu. Sfan00, who has proofread the new version of the text, requested that it be deleted in place of the new version. --Benn Newman (talk) 20:06, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Your annual confirmation has failed and your sysop flag has been removed. I would personally like to thank you for the good work you have done here as an admin. I hope you continue to contribute here and feel welcome to share your experience as the project grows with new contributors.--BirgitteSB 01:55, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
TemplateScript
[edit]Hello Newmanbe. I updated your common.js page to the latest version of TemplateScript (and moved it from the deprecated monobook.js name). This is just to enable automatic updates, so you shouldn't see much difference. If you notice any problems or have questions, let me know! :) —Pathoschild 02:40, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
