Wikisource and its quirky "nop" template

[edit]

If you have a look at Special:Diff/4811219, you will see that I validated the page and appended the template {{nop}}. This is something that we append to a page with a terminating paragraph. We add it as the wiki software gobbles lone paragraph ends when we transclude pages, and the paragraphs would run together. This little trick preserves the para end, and (blah blah blah) all works fine in the end. I will slowly plod through some of the other pages and validate them, and if I have anything useful to contribute I will pop back. If you want to watch my muddy footprints there then the link to watch is related changes and I am happy to answer any questions that you may have. The best place for any questions is WS:S where there are lots of knowledgeable people always willing to help.

Heralds of God

[edit]

Hi, ST. There is a discussion over at WS:Possible copyright violations which disputes the public domain status of Heralds of God. It would be good if you could go over and give your opinion. Thanks,—Clockery Fairfeld [t·c] 11:28, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nothing for which you need to apologise with that upload, as you did what is instructed and expected. It is a peculiarity due its looking to be an American publication, yet wasn't. It is an easy one to amend once identified as the issue. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:41, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Index:The Book of the Courtier.djvu and endnotes

[edit]

Hi. Saw that you are working on this book and I notice that it has endnotes rather than footnotes. I faced a similar issue with Index:A Compendium of Irish Biography.djvu, so I set up Template:IrishBio ref as a means to standardise my approach. I note that the references are used multiple times in multiple articles, so it has difference, though I thought it least highlighting something similar. It is probably time that we look to better work with endnotes, however, it has yet to be anyone's priority. {{ping}} me if you need advice, or do feel welcome to ask at WS:Sbillinghurst sDrewth 14:06, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: That's interesting - thank you! SandTransformed (talk) 02:33, 5 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Index:English for Teachers.djvu

[edit]

Interesting, Are you going to check the copyright on all the quoted material? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:30, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

For example - Page:English for Teachers.djvu/108 re-quotes materail from w:How Children Fail, a book that is still copyright and thus potentially can't be included here. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:33, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

ShakespeareFan00 Thanks for bringing this up - I didn't see a specific policy on this, but I guess it shouldn't be included since Wikisource prohibits fair use.[1] However, I could add something like: "quotation from [link to original]" as a placeholder. Margaret* (talk) 22:13, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'd use an annotation like [ Due to Copyright restriction the original text could be not included to view it <Click here>] or an equivlaent wording. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 22:18, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
