A tip

[edit]

Hi, you can use "{{smallcaps}}" to produce "My Lords". Enjoy, John Vandenberg 16:05, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I wasnt aware that it was recommended that it was substed, and I do see how the performance benefits outweigh the benefits of avoiding HTML syntax in the text. Personally, I think the {{smallcaps|..}} is more friendly to the average new user who clicks the edit button, but like I said, that is personal preference. So long as you arn't typing it out by hand each time... :-) I'll try to make the next tip more useful. John Vandenberg 16:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Select British Eloquence

[edit]

Hi, I used to be involved in dealing with speeches here at Wikisource, though I've been uninvolved for a while now. I'm just thinking of getting re-involved & re-exploring the site I saw some of the work you've done on 'Select British Eloquence'. Well done. One thing I noted was the categorisation of the pre-1707 speeches as British speeches. Although the volume is 'British eloquence' in the categorisations its more accurate to use category:English Speeches or category:Scottish Speeches as pre-1707 they wouldn't've been British except in the geographical sense & the categories are national rather than geographical.

(For what its worth the use of the term British in the title is a subtle form of cultural imperialism often found in some history books, which considers British history as purely English history until 1707 then adds Scotland).

I may be getting more involved in wikisource again time premitting & if so I'll look to start including your SBE speeches in the main speech page (sadly underused since I left). AllanHainey (talk) 12:57, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
