TROPICAL STORM ERNESTO MOVED NORTHWARD INTO SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA AFTER 
MAKING LANDFALL NEAR THE NORTH CAROLINA/SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER DURING 
THE LATE EVENING HOURS OF THURSDAY AUGUST 31, 2006. THE REMNANTS OF 
ERNESTO...COMBINED WITH STRONG HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING SOUTHWARD FROM 
NEW ENGLAND AND SOUTHEAST CANADA...BROUGHT STRONG WINDS...HIGHER 
THAN NORMAL TIDES...VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLOODING TO NORTHEAST 
NORTH CAROLINA...CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA AND THE LOWER MARYLAND 
EASTERN SHORE. ERNESTO BECOME EXTRATROPICAL AS IT STALLED OVER 
SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA FRIDAY EVENING.

E.  BEACH EROSION

NO SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION REPORTED AT THIS TIME.


F.  FLOODING

FLASH FLOODING FROM VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WAS REPORTED ACROSS MUCH OF 
NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA...SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA AND THE LOWER MARYLAND 
EASTERN SHORE. NO SUBSTANTIAL FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE WAS REPORTED...
ALTHOUGH NUMEROUS ROADS WERE CLOSED. 

STORM SURGE/TIDAL FLOODING WAS EXTENSIVE FROM THE YORKTOWN/POQUOSON 
AREAS NORTHWARD UP THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND INTO 
THE TIDAL SECTIONS OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK AND POTOMAC RIVERS. FLOODING 
OF HOMES WAS REPORTED...AND SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO PIERS AND SOME 
BOATS WAS ALSO OBSERVED DUE TO THE COMBINED EFFECTS OF ABOVE NORMAL 
WATER LEVELS AND HIGH WAVES.


G.  TORNADOES

THERE WERE NO TORNADOES.


H.  STORM EFFECTS

IN VIRGINIA...2 FATALITIES WERE DIRECTLY RELATED TO ERNESTO WHEN A 
TREE FELL ON A RESIDENCE IN GLOUCESTER. 

DOMINION POWER REPORTED THAT OUTAGES AFFECTED MORE THAN 600,000
HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN ITS SERVICE AREA WHICH COVERS MUCH OF 
VIRGINIA AND NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA. DELMARVA POWER REPORTED 
49,000 RESIDENTS WERE WITHOUT POWER ON THE MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA 
EASTERN SHORE.
