by George James Webb

Webb composed this tune in 1830 for his song "’Tis Dawn, the Lark is Singing", which he published in collaboration with Lowell Mason in The Odeon in 1837. It gained popularity as a hymn tune set to Samuel Francis Smith's "The Morning Light is Breaking", with which it first appeared in The Wesleyan Psalmist, 1842. Because of this, it is also known as Morning Light.
