Where You Lay

the moon
slipped
down
into the space
where a cloud slept,
eased itself down,
a neon cough drop
into the earth's belly,
and the clouds slept
like a suspended kiss,
clouds of nightfall
clouds of the morning.
When the time came,
the sun slowly took its turn
and brought shadows
birdsong
and day.
To watch you wake
my dulcinea,
is to watch the world
dress itself up
in new day,
and in the silence of sentiment
I kiss the ground where you lay.
