JONES, Frederic J. (SHANGHAI), Queensland Government Commissioner of Trade; b. 1863. Educ: High School, Devonport, England. Australian merchant since 1882; three times appointed by the Queensland Government as Commissioner of Trade and now permanently residing at Shanghai; was instrumental in obtaining the admission of Chinese officials, merchants, and students into Australia; holds authority from the Honourable Alfred Deakin, Prime Minister of the a Commonwealth, to issue Certificates to Chinese of the classes mentioned to visit Australia without being subject to the provisions of the Immigration Restriction Acts, 1901-1906.
