SHIBUSAWA, Baron Yei-ichi (TOKYO), Merchant; b. Mar., 1840, in Saitama-ken. Took service under Shogunate in its declining days and visited Europe, 1867-1868, in company with a Tokngawa Prince; on establishment of Imperial Government, was appointed to Treasury; resigned, 1873; founded 1st Bank, in 1873; Chairman cf Tokyo Chamber of Commerce from its inauguration, till 1905; created Baron, 1900.
