BAIN, George Murray (HONGKONG), Journalist; Proprietor of the "China Mail " and " Wah Tze Yat Po "; b. Aug. 24, 1842,at Montrose, Scotland. Educ.: Montrose Borough School. Came to Hongkong on Feb. 9, 1864; joined " China Mail " as sub-editor and reporter; became editor later, and proprietor in 1872; during 1887 and 1882 took active part in fighting the vicious policy of the then Governor, Sir John Pope Hennessy; has consistently upheld British interests and maintained an impartial attitude towards other nationals; one of oldest journalists in Far East; takes interest in all public movements and supports all sports.
