Problem with movement of main page
Hi, I see that the main page has moved to www.en.wikisource.org (& the main page talk hasn't). I think it must be something to do with this change that is preventing me from logging on in my own username AllanHainey. When I try I get the message "There is no user by the name "AllanHainey". Check your spelling, or use the form below to create a new user account." Has anyone else experienced this problem & does anyone know how to fix it. Thanks. 193.201.120.128 08:14, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- You need to create a new user account here at en.wikisource. Good luck.Dovi 08:16, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. That's a bit awkward though, is it possible to get access to my old watchlist or list of contributions? 193.201.120.128 08:28, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- create account first. you'll have access to your list of contributions to the pages that have been imported here. For the watchlist, you'll have to rebuilt it anew. ThomasV 09:10, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a pain in the neck. Someday there will be univeral login for all wikis. In the meantime, you can still view your old watchlist at wikisource.org. You might want to set your "edit" preferences so that anything you edit gets automatically added, so that you can build your watchlist back up here.Dovi 09:13, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

Important history
As noted by anon above, the old Talk:Main Page:English from wikisource.org was not moved here.
That is an extremely important page, because it contains the very earliest discussions from the beginning of Wikisource. It also contains a list to very old archives.
Offhand, I can think of two possibilities for what should be done with it:
- Leave it where it is now. If we do so, then we should set up some much more prominent "History" link than what we have now. Because who will be able to find it at the now-dead "Talk:Main Page:English" page?
- Copy it into archives that will be listed at the top of this page.
- It is also possible to do both.
What do other people think should be done?Dovi 09:42, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Come on, all pages have been moved here with their associated talk page. the page you are looking for is here: Talk:Main Page:English. Eventually, the copy on the main site will be deleted. ThomasV 11:30, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- it would have been better to move Main Page:English here, instead of starting a new page and copy-pasting the old one. ThomasV 12:15, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, you're right, I overlooked it. What you suggest could still be done if someone who currently has admin rights would delete the current Main Page and move the other one over.Dovi 13:33, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Does this mean that the Special:Import feature is now working?—Zhaladshar (Talk) 13:46, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- No. It just means that the current Main Page:English here at en.wikisource (which is currently a redirect) preserves the whole long history of the page that it had when moved over from wikisource.org. I page move, rather than a redirect, could be done if the current page was first deleted. (Got to go, I'll be back later.)Dovi 13:54, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Oh. Duh, I understand it now. It'll be nice when this place can get some sysops to do this stuff.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:09, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Would anybody mind if I went ahead and deleted the current main page and moved Main Page:English to the main page slot (that way we can keep the history of the Main Page:English)?—Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:55, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
- Please go ahead. However, don't forget to delete this talk page as well, so that the old talk page and all of its history get moved here and preserved as well. Afterwards, all the deleted comments (like this one!) can get appended (you can still read and copy them as an admin).Dovi 18:30, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
Discussion on obsoleted English main page
Number of articles
The main page says there are now "-1 pages" here. Nothing wrong with modesty, but this is ridiculous! Lusanaherandraton 09:06, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
- Something seems to be wrong with Wikisource. Also, the block list is empty, and it wasn't like that several days ago! --66.122.115.94 03:04, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
broken links
well, great, a lot of wikisource links are broken now. see en:Rigveda, en:3227a, en:Aṣṭādhyāyī for examples. How do I find these texts now, and how do I format the links? 81.63.54.120 12:52, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

From Talk:Main Page/New
wikisource.png
Hello. I uploaded the wikisource.png on Commons so it could appear here.
On the one hand it is nice, but on the other hand it takes of a lot of real-estate at the top of the screen. We should decide whether kkep it, to delete it, to reduce its size, or put it in the top-left box as the beginning of the sentence.Dovi 03:49, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Most of this page is in French
Is most of this page meant to be in French, it seems to be a mistake as we are on the en language subdomain. All the links are red too so it looks like they previously linked to the French pages. I'm not convinced this is the correct page for the link which leads to it - "help design our new main page" AllanHainey 10:44, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- The point is to use the French code as a model instead of building our own from scratch! It needs to be translated and reworked to fit our needs. See previous talk at Talk:Main Page. Dovi 11:00, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks Dovi, I didn't realise that. Personally I'm happy enough with the main page we've got but as it's been decided to get a new one I'll have a wee tinker with the page when i've time. AllanHainey 11:58, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Some problems with code
If you look at the ride side of the page, the very right side of that column is cut off. And I can't find a way to get around this. Could someone with a better knowledge take a look at that and fix it?—Zhaladshar (Talk) 13:57, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Index of Titles A-Z
Wikisource seems to be very strong on author pages and categorization, but very weak on titles. Do we have any title system at all?
I would really like, underneath Index of Authors A-Z, to put Index of Titles A-Z, just like on the Spanish Mainpage. But I have no idea what system we use for this, so I don't know what to put into the links.
Possibility: Since Titles are what is listed in the main namespace, perhaps as a default we could link to "All pages" begininng with A, B, C... Any other suggestions?Dovi 18:20, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- I say we do that. Just link to Special:Allpages, and specify the start letter (A, B, C, etc.). Because we really don't have any system for listing articles.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 20:00, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
New Spanish Main Page
Spanish Wikisource just advertised its new Main Page at Wikisource News. Take a look.
I think it is the nicest of all so far. There are things there we could use here too.Dovi 05:39, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- That's really nice. We could incorporate some stuff from it, although ours isn't bad, except for the right column which has bad spacing.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 23:25, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
Math and source code
Hi,
Any objection to remove math and source code from the Main Page ? I think there is a consensus that these do not belong to Wikisource. Yann 22:33, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- Nope, go ahead and remove it. If they are to go anywhere, it would be the multilingual Wikisource, and even there, it will probably get deleted.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 23:24, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
I believe that it is quite proper to have cross-links to Interlingua on the other Main Pages, but I strongly disagree to the removal of links to Japanese. I would be very pleased if the anonymous person who did this would correct his errors! Eclecticology 19:06, 21 Jan 2004 (UTC)
