planes during the "big push" and<br />
bears many scars of the encounter.<br />

ing his own plane, he had learned to<br />
fly here on the local field and only<br />
a brief training was necessary be-<br />
fore he was sent to France. Before<br />
his entrance in the war, he was a<br />
railroad detective for the M. N. &<br />
Q. Railroad and he was instrument-<br />
al in clearing up mysterious freight<br />
thefts and bringing about the ar-<br />
rest of a clever gang of box car<br />
