The Prince's Letters

0:01:37

The Crown Prince, heir apparent to the throne of a large empire, wrote indiscreet letters to a young woman who later died of a broken heart.

On her deathbed, the wronged girl gave the letters to her sister, Alice Faulkner, for safekeeping.

Count von Stalburg, the Prince's private secretary, and Sir Edward Palmer, a high-ranking British official, have been charged with retrieving the letters.

The Larrabees, unscrupulous adventurers currently on the English Coast, have found a new victim just in time.

Sid, a dapper and resourceful cracksman, is a member of the Larrabee gang.

Through the thin walls of the hotel, the Larrabees can clearly hear the conversation in the neighboring suite.

Alice Faulkner
"The man you represent betrayed my sister, who died in misery and despair. I have the letters and I am keeping them!"

0:05:25

"Those letters are of great value—we must have them!

Here is what we shall do.

I will rent an isolated house in a remote section of London.

You will befriend this melancholy girl and convince her to live with us."

0:05:52

Sir Edward Palmer
"Count, here is the only man who can solve our case."

0:09:16

Sherlock Holmes
"Let me recommend these books while you wait for me."

The Larrabees have revealed their true intentions: Alice is now a prisoner in their bleak and isolated lodge.

0:11:58

James Larrabee
"I think she has hidden the cursed letters in the safe, but we can't open it. She must have changed the combination!"

Madge Larrabee
"Tell us where you have hidden them."

0:16:32

FIXME: James Larrabee? Madge Larrabee? Sid?
"Quiet! Someone is at the door!"

0:17:00

James Larrabee
"See who it is."

0:17:27

Madge Larrabee
"A tall, thin man… about forty, with a smooth face… wearing a long coat and carrying an ebony cane…"

0:17:38

FIXME: James Larrabee? Sid?
"Damnation! It's Sherlock Holmes! He must be here for the letters."

0:18:16

James Larrabee
"If he leaves with them, crack him on the head with this and grab the letters."

0:19:57

Sherlock Holmes
"I have just sent my card to Miss Alice Faulkner."

0:20:12

Madge Larrabee
"Say that Miss Alice is unwell and unable to see anyone."

0:20:31

Forman
"She is not well enough to see anyone."

0:21:03

James Larrabee
"I will take the card to her myself."

A piano that has not been touched for a long time.

And a safe that was forced open not five minutes ago.

0:22:56

The artful Larrabees plan to trick Sherlock Holmes by introducing him to a false Alice Faulkner.

0:23:52

Forman
"They have locked her up and won't let her come down. They have even been violent with her.

0:24:19

Sherlock Holmes
"My dear child, if you are no longer happy here, you will find a good position at this address."

0:24:48

Sherlock Holmes
"I thank you very much for consenting to see me, Miss Faulkner, but regret that you were put to the trouble of making such a rapid change of dress."

0:25:29

Sherlock Holmes
"Would Miss Faulkner be so kind as to play something of which I am particuarly fond?"

0:26:13

Sid
"No one rang for you!"

0:26:20

Sherlock Holmes
"Please forgive me, but it was I who rang in order to learn why no one has given my card to the true Miss Faulkner."

0:26:35

Sherlock Holmes
"You are resorting to trickery. Deliver my card to Miss Faulkner at once!"
