*CONSUBSTANTIALISTS, who believed the doctrine of the consubstantiation, namely, that the real body of Christ is present with the bread and wine, instead of their being converted into it by transubstantiation. The term consubstantial ($\Omega \mu \mathrm {o} \gamma \tau \iota \mathrm {o} \xi$) was also used in the Arian controversy to distinguish the Athanasians. See Lutherans, and Arians.
