"The Acharnians" (Ἀχαρνεῖς Akharneîs, or Ἀχαρνῆς) is an early comedy by Aristophanes, first produced in 425 BCE. The protagonist, Dikaiopolis, miraculously obtains a private peace treaty with The Spartans and he enjoys the benefits of peace in spite of opposition from some of his fellow Athenians.
As with all ancient Greek dramas, the interpretation may vary, given the condition of available manuscripts, the current study of ancient Greek language, and changes in the English language. As a result, varying English translations exist.
