Beißker, m., ‘loach,’ adopted from Slav. (Bohem. piskoŕ, Russ. piskárĭ), and based by popular etymology on beißen (the fish is also called Steinbeißer, ‘river-loach,’ Schlammbeißer, ‘pond-loach’).
