(c. 1756 – 1832)

John White was an English surgeon and naturalist. He was principal surgeon on the First Fleet, which established the first Australian colony of New South Wales in 1788. On arriving in Australia, he discovered that he loathed the place, but nonetheless became interested in its flora and fauna, making important scientific collections and publishing numerous plant species.
