Shoghi Effendi Rabbani
(1897–1957)

Shoghi Effendi, was the great-grandson of Bahá'u'lláh, and the head of the Bahá'í Faith from his early twenties until his passing. He was appointed to the role of Guardian of the Cause of God by his grandfather, `Abdu'l-Bahá. He wrote volumes of interpretation of Bahá'í scripture, defined Bahá'í administrative processes and institutions, and built up the modern infrastructure of the Bahá'í Faith. He was born in Haifa, Israel (then Ottoman Palestine), and passed away of a respiratory infection in London in the United Kingdom, where he was laid to rest.
