Identifications

"The Bet" was attributed to:

• Christian August Gottlob Eberhard (1769–1845) in The Masterpiece Library of Short Stories: Old German (vol 17, 1920?) (external scans (multiple parts): 1, 2)
• Johann Augustus Eberhard (1739–1809) in Great German Short Stories (1929) (external scan)

Both seem quite speculative: J. A. Eberhard died before the story was published, and I don't think the story was included in C. A. G. Eberhard's collected works (though it might be worth checking this in more detail). --Yodin^T 12:14, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
