The mountains sleep;
Ridge and ravine and valley lie a-dream;
In earth's dark seam
The writhing reptile slumbers; and the gleam
Of feral eyes grows drowsy down the steep;
Bee-murmurings cease;
Over the blue brine comes release
For slow sea-monsters, and to birds surcease
Of stress for fluttering pinions in forgetful peace.
