Franklin D. Roosevelt to Winston Churchill (July 10, 1941)
TELEGRAM
TO: AMEMBASSY
LONDON
SECRET FROM THE PRESIDENT TO THE FORMER NAVAL PERSON
I HAVE GIVEN CONSIDERATION TO YOUR RECENT CABLE
RELATIVE TO A JOINT ANGLO-AMERICAN TANK BOARD. WE
HAVE HAD HERE FOR SOME MONTHS A JOINT BRITISH-AMERICAN
TANK BOARD WHICH WE THINK HAS DONE SOME VERY GOOD WORK
IN COORDINATING DESIGNS AND PRODUCTION. IT MAY BE
THAT IT SHOULD HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL MEMBERS ON IT BUT
I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY UNWISE TO CREATE A NEW BOARD
IN THE LIGHT OF THE GOOD START WE HAVE ALREADY MADE.
I HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO GET OUR TANK PRODUCTION
VERY SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASED AND WILL LET YOU KNOW
SOON THE NEW ESTIMATES.
