Images

@Zoeannl: Have you seen this help page?— mw:Help:Images. Some of the image templates on Wikisource might not be using the quick image rendering. I was using templates FI, FIS, image float. Today I changed the first image here. Let me know what you think. The frame option doesn't seem to work, so the caption is outside the file spec. Outlier59 (talk) 15:48, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

I am so unqualified to comment. I’ve been using FIS because I learnt it from Pop Sci Proofreading Guide and it is easiest for me to understand. The mw Help page is better that the WS but still too technical for me. You are saying that the templates may be slowing down rendering of the pages and so you have returned to the basic syntax? I have come to the conclusion that I should use a template; and if it has technically undesirable side-effects then "someone" can fix it later and because a template is used, the effects will flow on… (I must state this is terribly hypocritical of me, as I hate it when my boys leave things for "someone" to deal with and let them know.) I am trying to come up with a guide for new, non-technical proofreaders and so far I’ve got as far as put in missing image and proofread the caption as per Distributed Proofreaders. FIS covers most of the options but when I wanted to put a caption to the left of the image there wasn't a straight or simple answer on how to do it. And now there are speed concerns, there is obviously work still to be done. I am focussing on finding examples—typical and non-typical, with the aim of coming up with a list of features we are looking for, technical specs and user friendly input format. Then look for "someone" to rejig the templates. I am in no hurry as I keep finding new things to add to the proofreaders guide and books that are not typical. I am still in active assimilation mode, personally. I think it would be really worth while adding to the discussion at {{FIS}} re speed concerns. Is it related to the size of the image file? @Zoeannl: I'm getting very slow rendering for images that use Template:FreedImg. I tried bringing this up at Template_talk:FreedImg, but that discussion doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I can only work with what I see and know right now. I'd rather not validate pages that seem to contradict WikiMedia instructions for image dispay, so I'm taking a pass on validating the remaining pages here for now. Link to djvu on Commons

@Hrishikes: Can you link the djvu on this index page to the djvu file in Commons? Commons seems to see the link to this index page, but this index page doesn't seem to see the reverse link. Outlier59 (talk) 00:25, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

It's working fine both ways in my computer. Right-click on the title image on index page and go to the shadow-copy of the file here; from there you can go to commons. Hrishikes (talk) 01:02, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Validation mostly done

I can't validate pages that I proofread, so some validation still needs done. Here are a few notes before I move on.

1. It looks like a partial footnote from Chapter 1 is appearing in the footnotes to Chapter 2. I don't know how to fix that.
2. The image sizes on the pages (400px wide, 200px, etc.) might look better smaller -- but not so small that labels can't be read.
3. The image crops in Commons are large files. My understanding is that the files are automatically re-sized. I haven't seen that happen here -- the download is slow for each of the 3 chapters. It might help to use thumbnails for some images, maybe convert some to grayscale.
