@SDudley Just to clarify, are you saying that you believe this work is PD, and just uploaded with the wrong PD tag (on Commons)? Or are you saying the PD tag is incorrect? It would be nice to know before starting transclusion. Thanks for checking either way.
@SurprisedMewtwoFace, good to see you are back. In your absence, I briefly had a look for scans of The Tarzan Twins and Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle, but didn't have much luck finding anything (pre-1930). Did you have the same issue with them, and/or Tarzan and the Lost Empire? If scans can't be found for the previous two instalments of the series, and you were interested in working on them, we might be able to source some with a kindly message at User:TE(æ)A,ea./Requests. As far as I can tell, this is actually the 1962 Ace edition of Tarzan and the Lost Empire. It does NOT have a copyright on it because it was a reprint of the 1929 version of Tarzan and the Lost Empire and was published WITHOUT a copyright notice. It does not have a copyright notice because it was published by Ace when they mistakenly thought the older Tarzan books were already in the public domain, and they were later sued by Burroughs' estate to remove the books from circulation because they were still under copyright at the time. Since this book was published without a copyright notice in 1962, its copyright was never renewed or claimed because the Burroughs estate sued, AND because the original 1929 text of the book is now public domain, this book is indeed public domain. I would recommend it for transclusion, as I have had tremendous difficulties finding the original 1929 edition. @SurprisedMewtwoFace I am not sure if you just meant "me" in your post on the Scriptorium (regarding "some people" or "one user"), but I never actually said that I thought the work was in copyright. My question was focused on what PD-tag to use. But you can also hardly say that the copyright for this index was straightforward, so you can hopefully forgive me my confusions (I had to read your explanation a couple of times, but I think I get what happened in the end). I will start transcluding. Also, for future reference, you can just ping me in the same conversation, rather than bringing things to the Scriptorium, if you prefer.
