Homecoming
there, in the cold truth of dawn,
coming home,
he hears the park statues
muttering darkly;
there, in the taut light
of new-day-to-come,
twisting the last strip of lust
round his brain.
now, on the edge of
no longer to-morrow,
stuffing torn memories
into his pride,
now fumbling darkly
up flights of rude stairs,
flints of ungrandeur,
to fall on his grave.
