Davis, James Edward, legal adviser to the commissioner of metropolitan police since 1874, went the Oxford circuit, revising barrister 1855, stipendiary magistrate Stoke-upon-Trent 1864-70, police magistrate Sheffield 1870-4, author of Labour Laws of 1875, etc., a student of the Middle Temple 16 Nov., 1839, called to the bar 25 Nov., 1842 (2nd son of Aaron Wall Davis, of Presteign, co. Radnor, M.D.); born , 1817.
