Philips, Francis Charles, journalist and novelist, a member of the South Wales circuit, late capt. 3rd batt. King's light infantry (Shropshire regt.), served in 2nd Queen's royal regiment, anihor of Social Vicissitudes and Le Journal d'une Mondaine, matric. Edinburgh Univ., a student of the Middle Temple 24 Nov., 1879, called to the bar 26 Jan., 1884 (3rd son of late Washington Edwardes Philips, of Ruxley Park, Surrey); born 3 Feb., 1849; married 1st, 28 July, 1871, Maria, dau. of late Charles Jones, Esq., of Whitland, Carmarthenshire; she died 11 Feb., 1873, leaving issue; he married 2ndly, 8 Nov., 1878, Eva Maude Mary, youngest dau. of Rev. W. Trevelyan Kevill-Davies, of Croft Castle, co. Hereford, and has issue.
