Ward, Adolphus William, LL.D. Glasgow (Litt.D.), St. Peter's Coll., Camb., 1884, M.A. 1862, late fellow, chairman of Board of Studies Victoria Univ., Manchester, since 1880, professor of English literature and history (Owens Coll.) since 1866, examiner in law and history tripos Camb. Univ. 1871–3, in English and history London Univ. 1881–2, in history tripos Camb. Univ. 1884–5, a student of the Inner Temple 13 Jan., 1860 (then aged 22), called to the bar 26 Jan., 1866 (2nd son of John Ward, H.B.M.'s minister resident to the Hanse Towns); born 2 Dec., 1837; married 8 Feb., 1879, Adelaide Laura, dau. of Rev. T. B. Lancaster.
