מסור m. (מסר) informer, traitor (delivering Jews into the hands of the Roman government). B. Kam. 119a ממון מ׳ the property of an informer. Ker. 2b; B. Kam. 5a Ms. M. (ed. מוסר, corr. acc.); a. fr. -- Pll מסורות. Y. Sot. IX, end, 24a, a. e. המ׳ מפני (studying Greek was forbidden) on account of the informers(whose familiarity with Greek tempted them to treason, v. Bab. ib. 49b). R. Hash. 17a והמ׳ המינין (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 50) the heretics and the informers. -- Pem. מסורה. Midr. Till. to Ps. XII תהא לך מ׳ אומתך (ed. מסורת f. (מסר) (a chain of) tradition. Sot. 10b זה דבר וכ׳ מאבותינו בידינו מ׳ we hold a tradition from our fathers that &c. Hull. 63b במ׳ נאכל טהור עוף as for eating clean birds we rely on tradition (there being no rules for dis- tinguishing them in the Biblical law). - Esp. the traditionol Scriptural text without vowels, contrad. tto מקרא the traditional vocalizzation, v. אם. Y. Meg. IV, 74a bot. (ref. to Neh. VIII, 8) they explained the readins, המ׳ זה this means the traditional text; Bab. ib. 3a המסורות אלו (some eds. מסורת; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.); Ned. 37b המסורות. Ab. III, 13 לתורה סייג מ׳ the tradition is the fence for (pre- serving the integrity of) the Torah. Zeb. 37b, sq. אהני מ׳ ואהני מקרא the traditional vocalization is a help (in interpretation), and so is the traditional literal text (e. g. בסכת, Lev. מסחא m. (נסח) balance, v. מסאתא.
מסחותא f. (סחי) bath; bath-house. Kidd. 33a הוה מ׳ בי יתיב was sitting in the bath-house; v. מססותא.
מסחיט m. (סהט)squeezing appliance, wringer. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. VI, 7 דלת של מ׳ a wringer on hinges.

מסחריא m. pl. (סחר; cmp. אסתרותא) feasters, those who feast mmourners. Targ. II Esth. I, 2 (3) מ׳ קברי ed. Lag. (ed. מסחייא, מסאחייא, corr. acc.; ed. rrf. מרזחייא).

מסטובא m. (Ithpe. noun of סבב) = איסטיב, porch, esp. dealer's stall with a bench attached to the house. Y. B. Batb. II, beg. 13b מ׳ חד בה ושייר . . זביין sold his dwell- ing and reserved for himself one porch.
מסטוביתא, תה.. . f. same. Cant. R. to VI. 12 אין וכ׳ מ׳ לההיא מסתכל הוא (not לההוא) if he looks up to that stall where he used to sit tailoring &c. -Pl. מסטובייתא. Y. Bets. I, 60c bot. וכ׳ ברייתא מ׳ על . . . לא sit not on the outer benches of the hall of Bar la, for they are cold.
מסטווה f. h. same (cmp. איסטווא, איסטיו). Y. Kil. IX, 32a מ׳ ע״ג נתון placed on a stationary stone bench, opp. מיטה, couch. Y. Erub. VII, 24b bot. וכ׳ פני על מ׳ כשה (not עשרה) if he attached a porch along the whole front of the wall. -- Pl. מטויות. Y. Pes. V, 32c bot. עושין היו מ׳ להון they made for them projecting boards (along the wall, that they should not step on the blood; Bab. ib. 65b אאיצטבי דמסגי, v. איסטבא).
