The ruling Paſſion of your honeſt Heart,Is, where to find, and how reward Deſert.O bleſt Scillonians! Favourites of Heav'n!To whom ſo wiſe a Governor is given,You never felt the Iron-Hand of Pow'r;Oppreſſion never landed on your Shore ;The Pride of Office never frown'd on you;No Harpy Lawyers do your Iſlands know;No Tipſtaffs, Bailiffs, Petty-foggers, darePreſume to ſtretch their griping Talons there,Since a Godolphin, with pacific Sway,Has rul'd your Iſles, as Phœbus rules the Day.Thro' every Part be ſends his genial Heat,And spreads his Bleſſings o'er your rocky Seat.Tho' far divided from your Mother Iſle,On you fair Freedom looks a friendly Smile,On you beſtows whatever Britons boaſt,And pours her Gifts on your inclement Coaſt.But where's the Hope that future Bleſſing fills?Whoſe is the Hand that covers you from Ills?Grateful confeſs on whom you ſhall depend,And own Godolphin is your noble Friend.
