STORAGE AND SUPPLY (Cont'd)

Designation - Cold storage.

Leased or Constructed - Leased.

Location - Fremantle, various

Use - Chill and cold storage for meats and provisions

Area sq. ft. - Total 35,130 cu. ft. (see remarks)

Type of Construction - Brick

Personnel - 1 enlisted man.

REMARKS: (1) Refrigeration box leased from Anchorage Butchers, South Fremantle, W.A. Total 15,930 cu. ft. (2) One chill box leased from Richmond Brewery. 4,200 cu. ft. (3) Two lockers leased from Fremantle Cold Storage - No. 3 Locker 2,000 cu. ft., No. 4 Locker 13,000 cu. ft. Lack of personnel makes it necessary to secure working parties from warehouses thereby stripping other warehouses. Local manufacturing companies cannot produce sufficient quantities to meet requirements of U.S. Naval Forces. (4) Sufficient cold meats, etc. can not be shipped to this area in sufficient quantity to build up a proper reserve. (5) Cold storage requirements for this area are estimated at 60,000 cu. ft. The Australian Government has approved the construction of a cold storage plant of 1,000 tons capacity for U.S. Navy. Date of beginning and completion of construction is problematical.

REMARKS: Equipment (excluding automotive) - 2 5-ton Hyster Mobile Cranes; 2 3-ton Hyster Mobile Cranes; 10 3-ton Clark Lift-trucks; 1 5-ton Hand Operated Chain-hoists; 1 2½-ton Hand Operated Chain-Hoist.

Personnel: Labor Pool - 12 enlisted men; Compartment cleaners, mess cooks, etc. M.A.[?], guards, miscellaneous - 19 enlisted men.
