14. Vladivostock fleet met forty miles northeast of Tsu Islands and defeated by the Japanese fleet under Kamimura. The Rurik sunk, and the Rossia and Gromoboi escaped badly damaged. The captain and all of the superior officers of the Rurik perished. The Japanese rescued 601 of the crew, of whom 177 were wounded.
Russia protests to China against the seizure of the Ryeshitelni by the Japanese. China demanded the restoration of the vessel.
