Qualifications required: At least primary school education: reliability and familiarity with the keeping of records and the handling of cash: tact and ability to meet the public; supervisory ability.


Third Secretaries, Male, External Affairs Service. Open to residents of the Dominion of Canada. Time limit for receiving applications October 12, 1939.

Note: Eligible list to be established for future vacancies.

Qualifications required: Graduation from a university of recognised standing; preferably postgraduate study in political economy, political science, history or law; ability to do precis and memorandum writing: integrity, tact, good judgment and good address. Command of at least one modern language other than English or French.,while not required, will be given additional credit. Except where a candidate appears to be so well qualified as to justify a slight departure from the rule, candidates must have attained the age of 22 and not have attained the age of 30 on the date of the examination.*

  • Candidates entitled to the preference on account of service during the Great War are exempt from specified age limits, subject, however to certification of the Commission that they are of such an age and in such a satisfactory physical condition that they are able to perform the duties of the position and will probably be able to continue to do so for a reasonable period after appointment.

Applied Chemicals Limited

Public Notice is hereby given that under Part I of "The Companies Act. 1934." letters patent have been issued under the Seal of the Secretary of State of Canada, bearing date the 23rd day of August, 1939, incorporating Randolph Walter Howe, mining engineer, Edwin Oldham, George William Kimber, Wallace James Cromb and William Francis Kerwin, clerks, all of the City of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, for the following principal purposes. via:—

To engage in the business of manufacturing, producing, buying, selling or otherwise dealing in chemicals, fuels and allied products, and in proceesses, machinery and other equipment for the production thereof.

The operations of the company to be carried on throughout the Dominion of Canada and elsewhere by the name of "Applied Chemicals Limited." with a capital stock of $50.000. divided into 5,000 shares of the par value of 010 each and the head office of the said company to be at the City of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec.

Anglo-Dutch Sugar Refining Company, Limited

PUBLIC Notice is hereby given that under Part I of "The Companies Act, 1934." letters patent, have been issued under the Seal of the Secretary of State of Canada. bearing date the 31st, day of July, 1939, incorporating Hilliard Brooke Bell and John Seaborn McLaughlin, both of His Majesty's counsel learned in the law for the Province of Ontario, John Lauder Pond and John Douglas Fraser Ross, barristers-at-law, Florence Isabel Peacock, Sylvia Taylor and Dorothy Kottmeir, stenographers, all of the City of Toronto, in the said Province of Ontario, for the following principal purposes. via:—

(a) To buy, sell or otherwise deal in, import, export, manufacture, refine, clarify and otherwise prepare for market, sugar, syrup, molasses and all products thereof, and all articles of commerce of a similar nature.

The operations of the company to be carried on throughout the Dominion of Canada and elsewhere by the name of "Anglo-Dutch Sugar Refining Company, Limited." with a capital stock consisting of 200.000 class "A" shares of the par value of $50 each, and 200.000 class "B" shares without nominal or par value, provided, however, that the said class "B" shares without nominal or par value may be allotted for such consideration as the directors may from time to time determine, not exceeding, however, $1 per share, and the head office of the said company to be at the City of Halifax, in the Province of Nova Scotia.

Grain Sales Agency Limited

PUBLIC Notice is hereby given that under Part I of "The Companies Act, 1934." letters patent have been issued under the Seal of the Secretary of State of Canada, Bearing date the 23rd day of August, 1939, incorporating Cecil Lamont, secretary. Herbert Edward Swift, Horace Victor Hudson and William Howard August, solicitors, Jacob Charles Kornberger, law student, Martha Husel Barton and Muriel McKnight, stenographers, Ivy Lillian Eden, accountant, and Eileen Somerville Young, clerk, all of the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba. for the following principal purposes, via:—

(a) To buy, receive, take delivery of, handle, carry, warehouse, mix, mingle, treat, ship, transport, market, sell or otherwise deal in or dispose of wheat and other grains and agricultural products, and generally to carry on the business of grain merchant.

The operations of the company to be carried on throughout the Dominion of Canada and elsewhere by the name of "Grain Sales Agency Limited." with a capital stock of $50.000. divided into 500 common shares of the par value of $100 each. and the head office of the said company to be at the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba.

The company shall be deemed to be a private company under the provisions of The Companies Act.
