Tariff of Grain Elevator Charges
Applicable to the harbour of Halifax, N.S

Subject to the capacity of the elevator and the nature of its equipment on and after the first day of September, 1939, shipments will be received and shipped upon the following terms and conditions under the provisions of the National Harbours Board Act, 1936. and the Canada Grain Act and in accordance with the terms of the Licence issued to the National Harbours Board by the Board of Grain Commissioners for Canada.

1. Elevation Charges on Domestic Grain—

Receiving, elevating, weighing, delivering and storage for the first ten (10) days from date of elevation—One cent (1c.) per bushel.

2. Storage Charges on Domestic Grain—

For each succeeding day or part thereof after the first ten (10) days from date of elevation—One fortieth of one cent. (1/40c.) per bushel.

3. Elevation Charges on Export Grain—

Receiving, elevating, weighing, delivering and storage including.—

(1) Sixty (60) days free storage from date of shipment from points East of Fort William, Port Arthur, West Fort William and Duluth-Superior, or

(2) Sixty-five (65) days free storage from date of shipment from Fort William, Port Arthur, West Fort William, Duluth-Superior or West thereof—One-half cent (½c.) per bushel.

4. Storage Charges on Export Grain—

For each succeeding day or part thereof after the free time period allowed mater Section 3 hereof.—

(1) Winter period—From 1st December to 1st May next following, both dates inclusive—one fortieth of one cent (1/40c.) per bushel.

(2) Summer period—From 2nd May to 30th November next following, both dates inclusive—One-ninetieth of one cent. (1/90c.) per bushel.

Provided, However, that when the accumulated dockage charges provided for in sub-section (2) of this section amount to one and one-half cents (1½c.) per bushel no further storage charge will be levied for the same manner period.

Note:—

(1) Elevation charges do not include shovelling grain in vessel or switching from piers to elevator on inbound grain ex water or cars:

(2) Elevation charges on grain ex water are payable as follows:—

(a) Domestic grain—on unloading—Four-tenths cent (4/10c.) per bushel.

—on loading—Six tenths cent (6/10c.) perbushel.

(b) Export grain—on unloading—Two-tenths cent. (2/10c.) per bushel.

—on leading—'l‘luee-tenths cent (3/10c.) per bushel.

5. General Conditions and Extra Service Charges—

(1) Turning Grain (each operation)—One-eighth cent. (⅛c.) per bushel.

(2) Cleaning Grain (each operation)—One-half cent (½c.) per bushel.

(3) Sacking Grain (owners of grain to supply nickel—One and one-half cents (1½c.) per bushel.

(4) Elevation and Reconditioning Charges will be computed on the weight of the grain as taken into the elevator. Storage will be assessed on the weight after reconditioning: loss of weight in reconditioning to be borne by the owner of the grain.

(5) All services rendered between the hours of 6.00 pm. and 7.00 am. on ordinary working days and at all times on Sundays and the following holidays:—

New Year's Day,
Good Friday,
Victoria Day,
Dominion Day
Labour Day. and
Christmas Day.

will be considered as overtime and will be done by agreement.

(6) The rates per bushel shall be assented on the following weights:—

Wheat 66 pounds
Oats 34 pounds
Barley 48 pounds
Corn 56 pounds
Flax 56 pounds
Rye 56 pounds
Oat Scalpings 34 pounds
Screenings 48 pounds
All other grains 60 pounds
Buckwhcat 48 pounds

(7) The term "export grain" toad in this tariff means grains shipped for export to British and foreign countries, except the United States of America. Mexico, Newfoundland and the Islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

(8) The term "domestic grain" refers to all grains other than export grain as above defined.

(9) Owing to the limited elevator storage space available at certain times, shippers should make arrangements with the Board in advance of shipment giving particulars as to quantity, kind and grade and expected date of arrival.

(10) All property is at owner's risk.

(11) Charges enumerated in this tariff apply only to grain elevator charges as defined herein and do not include charges payable pursuant to any other tariff or tariff of the National Harbours Board.

Subject to the capacity of the elevator and the nature of its equipment, on and after the first day of September, 1939. shipments will be received and shipped upon the following terms under the provisions of the National Harbours Board Act, 1936, and the Canada Grain Act and in accordance with the terms of the Licence issued to the National Harbours Board by the Board of Grain Commissioners for Canada.

1. Elevation Charges—

(1) Receiving from canal vessels, including shovelling, elevating and Weighing: also storage for the first ten (10) days—Six dollars and twenty-five cents ($0.25) per 1,000 bushels.

(Payable, on unloading by vessel unloaded.)

(2) Receiving from ocean vessels, including elevating and Weighing: also storage for the firs ten (10) days—Six dollars and twenty-five cents ($6.25) per 1,000 bushels.

(Payable, on unloading by vessel unloaded.)

Note: Elevation charge levied under this subsection includes the Use of marine legs and shovels but does not include shovelling.
