He was translated to Salisbury in 1539^^. A license to elect a bishop in the room of John Capon issued 13th July 1539 ^\ pursuant to which 1539 John Bikde, D.D., suffragan bishop of Penrith^^, was 31 H.VIII. elected to Bangor 24th July 1539, received the royal assent ist Sept. following ^^ and the temporalities on the 9th 98; he was confirmed on the 13th of the same month 99. In 1541 he became the first bishop of Chester 1. 1542 Arthur Bulkeley, LL.D., having been elected by 33 H.VIII. the dean and chapter of Bangor, received the royal assent nth Dec. 1541 ', and he was confirmed on the 20th of the same month ; the temporalities were re- stored to him ist Feb. 1541-22. He was consecrated on the 19th of the same month ^, and died 14th March 155^-3. He was buried in Bangor cathedral.
The see was vacant two years. The conge d'elire vice bishop Bulkeley is dated 4th March i^SA^S'^i ^"^ pursuance of which 1555 William Glyn, S.T.D., was elected, and is said to 2&3P.&M. have been consecrated Sth Sept. 1555 in St. Paul's cathedral, London^; on the 25th of that month the temporalities were restored to him*'*. He died 21st May 1558, and was buried in Bangor cathedral 7. 1559 Rowland Meryck or Merrick, LL.D., was elected 2 Eiiz. ist Dec. 1559, and obtained the royal assent to his election 18th Dec. 1559*^. He was confirmed at Bow church on the 20th of the same month ; consecrated at
